How much public charging costs
Each operator sets its own price, and it can change depending on the app, card or subscription you use, so the same charger can cost different people different amounts. Public charging carries 20% VAT. Under the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023, prices must be shown in pence per kWh and rapid chargers (50 kW or more) must accept contactless payment. Charging at home, on an EV tariff off-peak, is almost always far cheaper.
