Who is behind it
My name is Guillermo. I am an engineer and I work in the public sector in Spain. Over my career I have worked, among other things, on electrical installations and energy contracts: tariffs, supply capacities and grids are very familiar to me.
I love cars and since 2025 I have driven an electric one. When I started charging it at home, I created CuandoCargo.es, which shows the cheapest time to charge in Spain. ChargeTips is the same project for the rest of Europe, country by country.
My own experience: by charging at the right times, my electricity bill in Spain has only gone up by €5 to €10 a month, and between diesel and parking I save around €200 a month compared with my previous car.
ChargeTips is a personal project: it is free, has no advertising, and I do not charge any car maker, charge point operator or energy supplier to appear on the site.
Where the data comes from
- Electricity prices: the Ofgem price cap, suppliers’ published EV tariffs and Octopus Agile half-hourly prices (Octopus Energy), VAT included.
- Charging points: open data published by charge point operators under the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023, plus OpenStreetMap, updated daily.
- Cars: battery, consumption, range and charging power from public sources (ADAC, EV Database and manufacturers), cited on each page.
- Routes: OpenRouteService and OpenStreetMap; maps from OpenFreeMap.
How it is calculated
- The best time to charge looks for the cheapest continuous slot for the kWh you need, with the real charging power and 10% losses.
- On a standard tariff, the time does not matter, and the site says so plainly. On an EV tariff, charge in your off-peak window (shown in your tariff details).
- On a journey, the official consumption figure is not enough: the planner raises it according to speed and cold weather and uses a charging curve that drops after 50%.
- These are rough estimates: always check the price in the operator’s app or on your bill.

A charger that is broken, does not exist or has wrong details? Report it from its page on the Charging point map: it is the quickest way and the next drivers will see it.
For anything else (a mistake, an idea or something missing), write to me at info (@) cuandocargo (.) es.
This is not my job: I do it in my spare time. If I am slow to reply, it is not that I am ignoring you; I am waiting for the off-peak hours.
