Electricity prices in Ireland
In Ireland, each supplier sets its own unit rates: the same at any time on a 24-hour tariff, cheaper at night on a night rate, and cheaper still in the early hours on an EV tariff.
Night-rate hours
Usual night-rate hours. Check yours on your bill: some EV tariffs have an even cheaper window in the early hours.
Fixed-rate tariffs
Most homes are on a 24-hour tariff or a night rate: on a 24-hour tariff, the price is the same at any time; on a night rate, the hours from 11pm to 8am are much cheaper.
What a 30 kWh charge costs (~190 km)
Charging on the night rate saves you 4.35 € on every charge.

Does my electricity price change during the day?
Only if you are on a night rate, an EV tariff or a dynamic tariff. Since 2026 the larger suppliers (Electric Ireland, Energia and others) offer dynamic tariffs: a base rate for each time band plus the half-hourly wholesale price (SEMOpx). On a 24-hour tariff, you always pay the same unit rate.
What is the cheapest tariff for charging an electric car?
If you charge at night, a night rate: a night unit costs about €0.1850/kWh, compared with €0.3300/kWh on a 24-hour tariff (VAT included). EV tariffs such as Electric Ireland Night Boost (2am–4am) or Energia EV Smart Drive (2am–6am) are cheaper still in their window.
